ARC Security’s integrates security, operations and data collection for self-service sites

On a daily basis, truck drivers collect water from the Whangārei Water Treatment Plant. When the council decided to upgrade the honour system of collecting data of truck drivers and water collections to an electronic security system and data collection, ARC Security was called in to help.

Our innovative solution was to integrate access control with machinery controls. By installing Gallagher Access Control and issuing all truck drivers with electronic ID access cards, we have catapulted the council’s level of control and billing accuracy into a new era.

How does it work? Each truck driver must use their issued access control card to gain entry to the treatment plant. The card is matched with the driver, and when they scan in, their presence is logged. This makes it easy to check records come billing time. The drivers’ cards are also what enables them to turn on the taps and fill their trucks. The taps, which are set to a timer, run continuously for 10 minutes before automatically shutting off. As 10 minutes is the calculated amount of time it takes to fill up a tank, the timer system prevents over-filling and therefore unnecessary water loss.

The efficiency and decreased staff costs offered by this solution can be seen across multiple locations. In fact, ARC Security has provided a similar solution to Stokes Transport. Thanks to our custom security design, Stokes Transport drivers now use card readers to enter truck-wash sites and turn on truck-washing machinery, which is also connected to a timer, shutting off water after the allotted time. The system logs who has accessed the site, when, and how many times, and these accurate automated records have streamlined Stokes Transport’s billing processes.
