ARC Security fills the digital gap in Northport operations
Northport chose ARC Security ten years ago for two reasons. The first, we are locally based, and the second, was our knowledge of security software and the particular software we could offer, were what Northport was looking for. “The question is why we have stayed with ARC Security and that would be because of their integrity.” Ten years on, the relationship our staff share with Northport’s is now quite personal, based on mutual loyalty and respect.
Operations manager Jae describes ARC Security technicians and consultants as being integral to Northport’s operations puzzle, maintaining and advancing their digital operations to a high standard. At ARC Security we are always researching the latest technologies to enter the market so that we can offer the best and most current options to our clients’. Jae places special value on having access to the latest and most efficient technology, and appreciates that Andrew keeps him up-to-date on the latest innovations in the security sphere.
As New Zealand’s northernmost port, Northport at Marsden Point, in Ruakaka, Whangārei, is a multi-purpose logistical centre for New Zealand, as well as a major player in the exports of timber forestry products to the world and a key importer for Golden Bay Cement Works. The sheer volume of containers coming in and out of Northport each year (approximately 3 million tonnes) presents the unique security challenge of successfully tracking and safely monitoring comings and goings. The harsh sea environment means equipment requires a greater level of maintenance, and our team are quite accustomed to working on cranes to service cameras on tower poles.
These are some of the security solutions ARC Security has implemented at Northport to increase staff efficiency and the accuracy of cargo data:
- Upgraded CCTV to include code identification software; whilst recording each individual container is being actively identified by their unique code number. These code numbers can then be used to search footage for specific containers in order to track their movement down to the time and date of entry and exit logged in the software.
- Gallagher access control on gates.
- Turnstiles and intercoms to prevent unauthorised visitations and allow guest access.
