Creating a safe, supportive environment for children and staff
Stand Tū Māia is a charity that provides intensive wraparound services for children aged 5 to 12 and their families. They work to transform the lives of children and young people who are at significant risk of harm to achieve safer, more stable futures. Their new purpose built therapeutic residential care unit in Whangārei can accommodate Northland youth and their families, providing a secure and welcoming space for healing and support.
ARC Security was engaged by Trigg Construction, the project’s lead contractor, to deliver a comprehensive security system tailored to the sensitive nature of the facility. The goal was to ensure safety for both staff and residents, while maintaining a calm, non-intrusive environment.
Working closely with the Trigg Construction team, ARC Security designed and installed an integrated system that enables discreet yet effective monitoring and access control. The installation included:
- Gallagher Access Control
- Gallagher Alarm system
- Automated boom gate
- Audio detection
- CCTV & Intercom
Because cameras could not be installed in residential areas, the team implemented HALO Smart Sensors which offer advanced audio and environmental detectors capable of identifying raised voices, smoke, and even vaping. These sensors feed directly into the central alarm system, alerting staff instantly to any potential issues without compromising privacy.
The completed system provides a robust, integrated layer of protection across the site, giving Stand Tū Māia staff the confidence to focus on what matters most — caring for children and families.
By combining Gallagher’s proven technology with HALO’s discreet monitoring capabilities, the solution achieves the perfect balance between safety, sensitivity, and reliability.
As with any project, a few challenges came up along the way, but close collaboration with the client and Trigg Construction meant everything was handled quickly and efficiently. Good communication and teamwork kept things running smoothly from start to finish.
